Welcome

Welcome to the Silver Shantymen website!

Seaham RNLI Life Boat Day 25th June 2019

The Silver Shantymen are a group of kindred spirits who meet regularly in Gateshead to enjoy practising and performing sea shanties and other songs of the sea.  Our repertoire mainly consists of work songs, which were sung when merchant navy crews were hoisting the sails and rigging or weighing the anchor and these songs tell stories of sea battles, romance, pirates, friendships, hardship, fishing and whaling, drinking and unrequited love and they are performed theatrically with humour and pathos.

The Silver Shantymen regularly give public performances throughout the North-East and always encourage audience participation.  We are available to perform at both public and private functions across North East England, see Performances and Events. To make a booking or request further information go to Contact Us.

Here are a few snippets of what we do.
